All 2020 Events have been postponed indefinitely

In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak impacting our community, friends, and family, WE HAVE DECIDED TO POSTPONE OUR MEAL PACKING  EVENTS  AND  ANNUAL RAMADAN DINNER INDEFINITELY.

Our decision to postpone our events is a heavy one as we will deeply miss the company of our wonderful guests and interfaith volunteers.  However, we will be gauging the national guidelines and will reconvene once conditions are ideal.

CHANGE  IS  IN  THE  AIR

The Coronavirus pandemic has thrust us into a radically changed environment.  Amid nonstop  warnings and reports, we have adopted new practices in our personal daily lives, we have readjusted our social distances, and nationally we no longer have business as usual.   The immediacy of the Covid-19 phenomenon, sudden and unprecedented in our lifetime,  has upstaged the seemingly more distant concerns  of  global warming, rising sea levels, air pollution, ground water contamination, etc.,

Covid-19 has given us an accelerated lesson in environmental consciousness.  We hope and pray to not get the virus. But as we experience concern for the quality of the air we breathe, do we “get” the similarity between a rapidly spreading virus and a gradual deterioration in the suitability of our planet’s climate for supporting healthy human life ?   Both are immediately invisible to the average person.  But climate change is like a virus in slow motion.

As we have learned best practices to “flatten the curve” of the Covid-19 pandemic, likewise there are learnable practices that can mitigate the environmental deterioration of our land, water, and air.  As people of faith we call on ourselves (excluding none of us) to improve our own AIR (Awareness, Intentionality, Responsibility) as stewards of our planet.

Scripture reminds us…

…that man can have nothing but what he strives for;

and the fruit of his striving will soon come in sight.

Al-Qur’an -  Surah (Chapter) 6, Ayah (Verse) 164

….and each person of faith has a similar call to action in his or her sacred text.

In that spirit, may we all strive to be more Aware, Intentional, and Responsible as stewards of our own minds, hearts, and spirits – and our planet.
